Rosey and Casey and Eric.....

My baby boys are almost TWO years old!!

I was sitting here on the computer and looking at my giant boys. The realization that are almost 2 years old hits hard, even though we have been planning this for awhile now. I look at them and just wonder how on earth they were ever so tiny that I think any one of their heads now outweighs all 3 kittens combined on day 1! Oh well, tomorrow we will be updating with pictures and new kitty weights.

As for Meisha, she will be 2 years old soon as well! I am surprised everyday how much she still looks like the little kitten. She is blessed with a cute sweet face that I think will always make her look like a kitten. I am including pictures of Meisha in this post for you to enjoy the cuteness factor. I have a cute kitten now, Ashland, but I still believe that Meisha is absolutely the cutest kitty EVER!!

The boys...1 year later!!

Oh wow, it is really hard to believe that it has been an entire year since Lee climbed up in an attic and pulled Rosey and Casey into our lives! 5 days later Eric hit the scene. The past year has been full of fun times, gallons of drool, and about a ton of kitty litter! Would we do it again?! You betcha we would!!

Rosey has become all cat. The once cuddly kitty is now very much a loner unless HE choses to love on you! Days go by with little more than a glimpse of Rosey. Rosey has much better things to do! Cat things, like sunning in the window or taking long naps on top of one of the cat trees! Don't think this means he isn't as loving as ever! When Rosey decides it is time for you to love on him, he cuddles up and purrs loudly and nonstop....this causes the drool to begin. Rosey is a pretty messy purrer we have discovered!

Casey is not quite all lover, not quite all cat. He has his moments of being both, leaning more toward being the lover. I went to clip his nails one day in a chair in the living room, and since then he won't come NEAR me in that room. If he does wonder over, he dashes off quickly after a quick petting on his head. It is as if he suddenly remembered the nail clipping incident! When we go to bed, Casey is there before our heads hit the pillows. He is very demanding for love then, and won't take no for an answer. He too drools when he purrs, even more so than Rosey. Casey LOVES to have his tummy rubbed, and will flop over to expose his tummy at the slightest touch. I give a slight tug on his tail and it apparently has a switch that causes Casey to flop and purr and drool. Casey loves to help me read books, only he has a habit of making them very wet with his drool!! It is very funny actually, but pretty messy.

That brings us to Eric! Eric is ALL lover kitty! Eric is also all drooly kitty and the kitty who purrs constantly! Eric is almost always in a lap, and therefore ALWAYS drooling. There have been times when he has drooled so much we need to get a paper towel to wipe up his mess! Eric can't get enough love and attention and is always vying for more. He loves to be near us, and because he gets along with almost everyone else in the house, he can be around most of the time. We recently took in Riley, a Japanese Chin who is almost 3 months old. Riley is a foster dog, and Riley and Eric seem to be best of friends! The 2 have been found snuggled together while sleeping, they play and wrestle, and Eric is so sweet and gentle with Riley it is sweet. It was a surprise that Eric turned out to be the lover, since he seemed fairly aloof when the boys were small! Today Eric is anything but aloof, he couldn't be aloof if he tried! I think he turned into the lover when he was sick from eating the cat litter. Who knows or cares, we love him and he very much loves us!!

Meisha loves all the boys, but she and Eric are very close. All 3 boys still adore Sandy and Diego, even though Diego is still not too sure about them! We have become a very active foster home for a local rescue, and Eric wants to meet them all and play with everyone. Casey likes some of the fosters, but stays clear of most. Rosey, well Rosey couldn't care less, as long as he has a cat tree to nap in and a window to sun in, Rosey is one happy camper.

I think Eric is the only kitten well suited to being a therapy cat. Casey and Rosey would be fine, but I am not sure they would enjoy it. I think having Eric and probably Meisha when she is old enough, will be perfect! All along I was wondering about the logistics of 4 cats visiting at once! No wonder the agencies make the animals be 1 year old to begin though, Casey and Rosey have really come into Catdom in the past 5 months or so!

Neutering the boys (day 162)

We had the boys neutered last Friday. We had planned to take in all 4 kittens, along with the 2 older cats and Charger, the dog. After much thought we figured we would do it in shifts, making it easier to care for them after their "big day".

We dropped the boys off around 7:30 in the morning, and they allowed us to pick them up a little earlier than normal due to our being concerned. The boys were little bobble-heads, and looked so pitiful! We brought them home and put them to bed in Sandy's big dog crate. They stayed there for a few days, while Meisha lived alone in the big cage. None of them were happy being apart, so when we moved them all back in together, they were all very excited!

We were stunned to find out that Casey and Eric both weighed in at 8.4 pounds, and Rosey weighed in at 7.2! Who knew that the little white 5.5 ounce fluff ball would grow so HUGE!? Casey now weighs close to 25 times what he wieghed when we rescued him!!

The boys were playing in the bathtub tomight, a new favorite play place for them. Casey's body is nearly 4 inches longer than both Rosey's and Eric's bodies. They are all 3 very big boys though!

As for Meisha, well Meisha goes in on February 16 for her spaying. She'll be fine with 3 big brothers at home to help take care of her once her initial recovery time has past.

It has obviously been awhile since this blog got updated. The kitties all 4 sat in Santa's lap at Petsmart for a picture on Dec. 2nd. At Catster.com, Rosey, Casey, Eric and Meisha each have their own pages now.

Casey has overtaken Rosey in weight, and almost weighs as much as Eric now!

The food we've been feeding these guys seems to make them smell bad. Right on the package, it says it has ingredients that are supposed to reduce litter box odors, but we've been noticing a fairly strong smell that is reminiscent of Desitin. So, Terri took it back and got some other food, and we'll see how that goes.

Day 62

Today is the 2 months mark since the kittens moved in! It seems like longer, yet it seems like only yesterday at the same time. The boys have grown from those little blobs of kittens to big crazy fast, yet very loving young cats. I trimmed their nails this evening, and I must say they are all 4 so well behaved during that time! I think they think of it as a paw massage.

The boys have gotten so tall that it is time to raise the roof on their cage. The cage is currently 3 foot tall, and by adding on the other section it will be 6' tall. We plan on making a sub-floor half way up, so I would be so worried about Meisha falling. I think the boys are big enough to handle it though.

Meisha has finally blended in with the boys. I think if you ask the boys, they will tell you Meisha has always been there. She curls up with the boys, she eats with them, and she plays with them, with very little fuss. I think the only reason there is fuss now is that Meisha likes to hear her own voice!

This picture was taken of the kittens in their travel box. Yes, they all curl into one box still, and there is still a lot of room. They don't like being seperated, so we won't push them into seperate boxes until they either decide on their own, or putting them in the box is like loading passengers on the Tokyo subway trains.

Day 60

WOW!! The boys have been here for 60 days! In those 60 days they have grown SO big and loving and playful. We inquired further about the animal assisted therapy program for the boys, and they have to be at least a year old to be involved. We will continue taking them places so they can meet different people and enjoy different experiences.

The boys finally have grown big enough to fit in their harnesses, so they will be spending some time in them each day, working up to a daily walk on the leash. They don't walk so well now on the leash.

In the next few weeks we will also start trying to teach the kittens some simple tricks. That may be a joke, as we all know cats don't really do tricks, they just sometimes amuse us by doing what we ask of them :-)

Meisha is really starting to blend in with the boys, rompong and playing with them as if she has been with them all along! She often stirs up the "trouble" when everyone else is quiet. Once the boys start to play with Meisha it is hard not to worry about her, as she makes enough noise to lead you believe the boys are killing her! They're no obviously, and once they back off Little Sweet Meisha attacks! Heeheehee!!

Day 59

Last night we discovered Meisha has a tapeworm. I won't go into detail about how we discovered that, but if you have had a dog or cat you probably understand :-) This morning I took Meisha to the vet and Meisha was once again given medicine. Have you ever given a pill to a cat!? All I can say is I counted blessings that Meisha only weighs a pounds and is still okay with pretty much everything! It was tiny little pill, and Meisha actually only had 1/4 of it, and she took it like a champ!

Aside from having the tapeworm, Meisha was given a clean bill of health. After confriming that tapeworm was not easily spread, you need fleas, Meisha returned home and joined the boys in the kitten cage. Fleas spread tapeworm, so that in an of itself is a reason you NEVER want to see fleas on your pets!!

I don't know if you have noticed the kittens' little blue mouse batting toy, it has a big springy red ball on a spring that the kittens bat at. Well it HAD a big red ball on it, but the boys have destroyed the mouse's tail. The big red ball is now a mere tuft of red fuzz. We are debating replacing the mouse, or waiting until all the fuzz is gone.....

Meisha has learned all about the litter box! I have to give credit to Casey for that! Meisha has been so fixated on Casey and watched his every move, and she has learned all. She has even learned Casey's loud screams :-)

Yes, hanging head in shame...We did not take any pictures, and we forgot to even weigh the kittens! To top that off I am a whole day late getting day 58 up!!

Today Meisha stayed with the boys all day long! Yeah, there was some noise, and we thought about taking her out, then we saw it all, the whole entire story! Meisha woke up a sleeping Rosey to have him play with her! It was only then that we realized it may be her WANTING the rough play. Sure enough, she provokes quite often!

On the other hand, Casey has almost learned the routine of pick on Meisha and I get Mommy time!

Today Meisha spent an entire hour visiting the boys! Well okay, Rosey and Eric, I did take Casey out for a large portion of the hour. I think she needs the company, the exercise, and she needs to see the boys being cats!

Meisha has mastered the leap now! She leapt about 8 inches from a shelf, up to the top of the cat condo. She did this several times, along with the return leap to the shelf!

Sandy had the pleasure of having all 4 kittens on the bed with her tonight. It is a first, and I don't think I have ever seen Sandy happier!!

I ordered i.d. tags for the kittens, and their canine mommy and brothers. I figure since the kittens are social butterflies they really need some identification on them.

Tomorrow I am going to call and find out more about using the kittens for animal assisted therapy, where they will visit people in the hospital and nursing homes and the like. I did the preliminary contact with the humane society, and I now have a contact and I will be calling tomorrow. I think the kittens will be great for the program, they are used to new people and new situations.

The boys are getting absolutely HUGE!! They are all 3 weighing in at 3 pounds and over!! Of course having little Meisha around just makes the boys look all that much bigger. Tonight I commented to Eric that Casey's head is about the same size the WHOLE Casey was when he first moved in!! Like I said before though, Casey has a big head!! :-)

Casey is still in the bullying Meisha business! We put Meisha in there with the boys and Casey just towers over her and picks on her! Rosey and Eric seem more accepting of Meisha, and want to just figure out who she is. Tonight when Meisha visited, we actually took Casey out. Rosya nd Eric and Meisha had a very nice play date!!

I keep meaning to tell you we, meaning the vet and us, think Meisha is really close to 6 weeks old. The vet told us she is on the small side of the 6 week old kitten, so she is big enough. She certainly ACTS like the boys did 2 weeks ago! She may be a teeny tiny thing, but she is FAST!!! The only thing she isn't really getting is the litter box! It isn't like the boys, just refusing to learn, she gets in there and thinks it is a buffet! We have to watch her close and have had to brush the pine bits out of her mouth more than once!! AGAIN I am thankful I read not to use clay litter with kittens!!

It is certainly easier to find time for this when the kittens are doing so many things!!

First of all, Sandy is all kinds of excited and happy now, her baby has accepted the fact that Sandy will not be eating her! The 2 of them were playing this morning, and the kitten seemed to really like the feel of cuddling with Sandy. I think Sandy got tired of being patient, and she decided she was going to stick it out with little kitty claws flying and little kitten hisses. After a few seconds of this Meisha relaxed, and has been fine with Sandy since!

Today I also decided to let Meisha join her new brothers for a few mintues of playtime. That Casey is a big bully!! The first time Meisha was in there, Casey cornered her, then pushed her around, and finally hissed and batted at her. I removed her promptly and she was just fine, not even scared. Later we put her in for another playtime, and this time went MUCH better. I figure 10 minutes with the boys 3 times a day for a few days until they all decide to get along. Oh, and Meisha has some growing to do before the cage is fun! She is not quite big enough to climb up and down the levels! She was ready for this, as she has not had any sneezing or runny eyes for the last 2 days! Oh yeah, and Meisha needs to be eating only solid food before she can really move in with the boys! It will probably all come together in the next week or so!

I have to tell you, there can't be a sadder sight than a kitten in quarantine!! It is so pitiful to see this little kitten sitting by the door to her box, just watching everything! I took her out and while I was holding her, I decided we could make a sling for her to ride in. I figured if it didn't work, it was still worth trying. We made the sling, and she rode around with Lee for a few minutes. While it isn't perfect, she can get out, it does make it easier to hold her and still do things.

Today Meisha tried hard food sprinkled on her moist food. She ate it like it was her favorite! Sh actually ate an equal amount of dry and moist at each meal. In a few days we will increase the dry food, until she is eating only dry food. I hope to have her eating dry food when she moves in with the boys!

Speaking of the boys, today they finished their wormer medicine like champs! Gosh, I can't get over how solid they feel, even Casey. I think back to when they first arrived, and how teeny tiny and fragile they felt. They are big beasts now!

Sandy has pretty much decided the boys are on their own, now that she has a new baby to focus on. Poor Sandy, Meisha is still not too thrilled with the idea of a dog in the house. Meisha was sitting on my lap tonight when Lee walked in with Sandy and Diego, and Meisha about had 2 cows!! She hissed and spit several times before she was able to calm down. Give it a few more days, and Meisha might be really okay with Sandy!

Okay, so Zelda is not a kitten, but I just have to tell you about this strange 2 year old cat we have!! Tonight she decided to pee in the toilet, this is the third time she has done it! We have never tried to teach her this, it is only on her own. I think she might think it a "bad" spot to go, so she pees there every so often! HA! Little does she know that one of thesedays I am going to start training her for this!!

I just went to upload pictures, when I realized we didn't take any!! All the 4 legged kids are in bed now, so I will make sure to get EXTRA cute pictures tomorrow!

Day 52

Today we decided to measure the boys to see who is the biggest kitten. You see, Eric weighs the most, but Casey looks like he is the biggest. We started off thinking Casey was all fluff with that hair, and or it was his light grey coloring. Well, a couple of measurements confirm that Eric is longest kitten. Casey has the biggest head, almost a full 1/2 inch bigger than both Rosey and Eric. Eric and Casey BOTH have the same size tummy!! So, Rosey is the smallest of the 3. I thought it funny that even though Eric weighs in more than 6 ounces heavier than Casey, the 2 are almost the exact same size! Oh, and 6 ounces isn't much, until you look back to day 1 and figure that Casey started this whole journey at about 5.5 ounces!!

I forgot to share with you our trip to the pet store yesterday. Lee put the kittens in a large ferret ball to see if they would be able to move it. They had no clue what to do, but we might get one, just to give the kittens a different thing to do.

Meisha has pretty boring life right now, poor girl!! She is afraid of the dogs, and she can't be around the other cats yet until her cold is gone, so it is either play alone or with us. When she is out though, all she wants to do is snuggle and cuddle and eat my hair. I did make her a little yarn ball to dangle inside her cage. I made one for the boys to play with as well. Meisha spent a large chunk of the day sitting in her hammock. I think she likes it so much because it allows her to see out all four sides of her box. At one point she was laying on her back, in the hammock, playing with her yarn ball, when she rolled right off! It brought a laugh :-)

Right now the boys are darting around like maniacs, or would that be catiacs?? Lee asked Eric if he wanted racing stripes, I will be sure to tell you if Eric ever answers!! The boys are confined most of the day, due to all the activity. They are also not quite sure where the litter pans are, and of course they still just drop and sleep where ever they land. When we do let them run, at least once a day, it is very entertaining!! Again I ask WHY would anyone ever want just ONE kitten!!

Well, I crocheted a little hammock for Meisha to enjoy while she is confined to her "box". I want to try to make her as comfortable as possible, since she is pretty much all alone. Well, all alone is relative, since Sandy is never more than a foot from her box!!

Gosh, I need to get back to keeping this thing up!! I guess it is just that the kittens are not doing many new things at this point, but they sure are getting really, really cute!! And they are getting OH SO BIG!!

Today we took in Meisha. Meisha is a 4 week old cutie pie, and she is really a girl :-) We already had it confirmed by a pro.... Meisha was rescued from a really bad place by a girl named Rachel. I just erased home where the word "place" is because the way this kitten is, you can't call that place a home!! Rachel's boyfriend says Meisha's white stripe on her forehead is her "Mohawk". If she was a he, we would have called her Mr. T!

Meisha was/still is covered with fleas, and thus has sores from them. Don't worry though!! We took her to the vet first thing, and they gave her a dose of Advantage, and those fleas are dying! I really didn't want to put the stuff on her. After they told me the fleas would all be dead in 12 to 24 hours, instead of days or weeks with non-chemical treatments, well I decided that outweighed any and all concerns with the Advantage!

Meisha took to the soft canned food with just a little coaxing. I had to spoon feed her, literally, the first 2 or 3 bites, then she figured it out! She ate very well, and then enjoyed a bottle of goat milk as a chaser!

Poor Sandy! Sandy so wants to be Meisha's mommy, but I think Meisha has had a bad experience with a dog in the past! She growls and hisses at Sandy, which just makes Sandy sad! I think they will grow to like each other, Sandy is sitting on the bed right at the door of Meisha's kennel. They are getting to know each other......Hopefully by Saturday they will be able to be together with no doors between them!!

We haven't introduced Rosey, Casey, and Eric to Meisha yet, though they have seen her. Meisha has the common kitten ailment of a respiratory infection, and she is on medication for that. 2 days after her symptoms clear up, the vet gave her the go ahead to join the boys for playtime! That will be fun :-)

As it stands now, we think we may be looking for another home for Meisha, probably in January. She will be ready before then, but I am afraid of adopting her to someone as a gift, then ending up in a shelter! SO, if any of you reading this are thinking of getting a kitten, you can watch here and get to know Meisha like you know her brothers!

If anyone has any suggestions on a type of scale, and a place to buy it, that will weigh these guys more accurately, please let me know!! Every one that I have seen has the same limitations the one we already have does, or it weighs in 1/2 pound increments.

I made the kittens these little hammocks that hang in the corners of their cage. The hammocks are crocheted, and the kittens seem to really enjoy cuddling into the hammocks to sleep!

The kittens are eating machines now!! Growing like weeds, or flowers as some would say :-) They are eating dry food exclusively at this point, with the occasional treat of moist food just because we still have some.

Day 45 (10/6)

We have been giving the kittens dry food mixed with canned food all along, so far, with progressively more dry food. The kittens are all three eating the dry food well enough that we have decided not to get any more canned food for their regular feeding. Maybe occasionally as a treat!

Eric has now reached the point where the scale gives an error if he wiggles, but we still got one more weight from it. And Rosey has now exceeded 2 pounds! We'll look around tomorrow for another scale we can use for awhile longer.

Look how big those kittens are!!

That is Frankie on the top of the cat tree with Casey. Frankie looks scared to death, but I think she is just more unsure of Casey than afraid of him. We got several pictures like this one, and Frankie never hissed or batted or made any other aggressive moves toward Casey.

We decided to try the kitty condo in place of the scratching post today. They all three seem to really love to climb on and in that. Not too long after that, Eric or Rosey (I'm not sure which) crawled head-first down into the corner between the condo and the outside of the cage. Casey was playing with his tail. Just before I was ready to get up and rescue the head-down kitty, he managed to back himself back up and out of the corner.

Eric still at the same weight (why 2 pounds? I don't know). Rosey went up again, beyond what he lost yesterday.

We got the new cage all cleaned up and put together today. We put the litter pan in one corner of the bottom, and the scratching post in another corner for them to climb on. All three kittens are doing really well at using the litter box now.

Eric has reached a weight plateau. And Rosey's weight dropped a bit today.

We got a ferret cage today for the kitties. It has about a 3-foot square base, and two 3-foot-high parts, and shelves that snap in for the kittens to climb on. We're going to just make it 3 feet high at first, so there isn't too much distance where they can fall (yes, we are still worried about their judgement).

I was so hoping to tell you we had litter box training well underway, but alas it was a fluke. This morning Casey got into the litter box, turned 3 times, and then he pooed!! I was so excited!! Nope, no encore performances though!! Oh well, it was a step in the right direction, right?!

Poor kitties!! They are so spoiled!! They simply refuse to eat the hard food to get to the softer food. I covered the soft food with dry food this afternoon, and they just didn't eat. Not to worry though, they all managed to gain weight, so it couldn't have been as bad as I think.

The kittens have made it very clear that they like their cat condo. Today it was sitting outside the playpen. Eric kept climbing out to get to the condo. Once Lee figured it out and placed the condo in the playpen, Eric stayed happily in there.

Today the kittens were full of piss and vinegar, playing rough with each other and climbing out of the playpen! Nothing like hearing 5 week old kittens "fight" it out, then suddenly they are asleep in a pile on the floor! Why would anyone want just one kitten at a time?! To really enjoy it, you need at least 2!!

Eric has known how to climb out of the playpen for a few days now, but today he seemed to make it his mission! I am SO not ready for these guys to be all over yet!!

Yay, Rosey!! Rosey has completely mastered climbing up and down the cat condo! The three of them now fall asleep up there. It is crowded, so that might get interesting in a few days!! I got a video of them playing, but I do not know how to put video up here.

Hmm, all the pictures from today are of sleeping kitties!! I don't know how that happened!! Do you see Rosey sleeping with his chin across Eric's back? It makes me think of the "Lean On Me" song :-)

That picture of Rosey was taken when he was "attacking" the camera. Do you see Casey's eyes in that picture of him? I think it is the first GOOD picture we have of his eyes! They always have an evil red glow!

The ones of the kittens sleeping were taken on and in the cat condo. Eric is asleep, hanging off the edge of the top. Casey is asleep in the middle, and Rosey is still floor level bound.

Well, the past month has been full of busy, busy days. The kittens have thrived nicely, despite a few bumps in the road. They are showing real interest in the litter pan, just ot in actually using it yet. Oh well, we are moving in the right direction there, and they show no desire to eat the litter at this point, so... We'll see.

Kittens fall asleep anywhere at anytime!! Do you see that Picture of Casey? He is sleeping! Yep! The is a little cat condo that has 2 cubby holes, and then a platform top. Eric has shown great skill and agility in his ability to scale and decend the cat condo with speed. Casey on the other hand shows great ability in climbing up, but he is not so sure how to get back down. Rosey just doesn't mess with the up and down of the condo so much. Anyway, Casey got all the way up to the top, Eric was in the middle cubby, and Rosey was in the first floor cubby. The three were batting at each other, when suddenly Eric and Casey just stopped moving. Eric was hanging out of the cubby, and well you see how Casey was sleeping! Rosey eventually gave up and fell asleep in the other cubby hole. Unfortunately, I was not able to get a good picture of Eric in his sleeping position.

All 3 kittens have discovered the art of drinking out of a bowl. No more bottles!! YAY!!! That water dish is a style we have been eyeing for years, but never wanted to spend the money on. A few days ago I found this one on www.craigslist.org, new in the box, for only $5.00! We figured we would use it for the kittens, thinking it was the smaller size, but it was the larger size. It is big enough for all :-) Don't the kittens look big, and oh yeah CUTE, drinking!?

The kittens are turning into real lovers! They are all happiest cuddling close and being held. Casey is learning how to "kiss". He often will just touch his mouth to my mouth, kind of like a pecking motion. Every once in awhile he forgets and tries to bite my lip, but he seems to understand no bite.

We are making baby steps in the litter box training effort, and I am sure it will all click in place soon!

We bought a harness for the kittens today, hoping to start them getting used to it. I really should have taken a picture, as it was HUGE on them! I will take a picture tomorrow of one of them in it. Anyway, we would really like to get these guys leash trained. I guess by the time they are actually big enough to WEAR the harness, they will be ready to adjust to leash life.

We started sprinkling hard dry kitten food on top of their warm moist kitten food, in a start toward weaning them to the dry stuff. It was a comical scene indeed. Casey went right after the hard food, and seemed to enjoy the different texture. His brothers were not too thrilled about the dry stuff though! Eric avoided it as much as he possibly could, and ate around it to get to the soft food. Rosey on the other hand picked the dry food up in his mouth, and promptly disposed of it on the mat outside the bowl. You could actually hear him spitting it out! Sorry Rosey, like I told you earlier, it is only a sign of more to come! Can you say spoiled kittens?

A few days ago, we discovered that while the kittens look very different, there are some similarities they all share. They all 3 have 4 white paws, with similar patterns of white. Now, if you look at the pictures, look closely, you will see that on the right side of their upper lips, just under the nose, they all have a lighter colored dot! They all 3 have this rather unusual dot, and it is really cool, as it just ties them all together.

These guys are getting BIG!! They are eating extremely well, to the point that we no longer weigh and measure all their food! They aren't drinking out of a bowl yet, so we still give them a couple of bottles each day. Eric acts like he knows what to do with water or a bowl of milk, but after a sip he is finished. They all 3 still really interested in the bottle, so I am gonna be a pushover and let them keep for awhile longer :-)

We have still made no progress on the litter box front, mainly because I am reluctant to leave the kittens with a litter box. I am sure they will figure it out soon :-)

Well, it is official!! All three kittens now weigh in at heavier than a pound!! YAY!!!! These little kittens are getting so big!!

Aside from a couple of new toys, not much going on in the kitten world. They eat, they drink, they pee, they poop, and they sleep! Today they slept a lot!

I did a Google search on a behavior that Rosey has, that I had been putting off. You see, he likes to pretend Casey is his bottle. You can imagine what I was afraid of might come up on that search, but it is normal for bottle fed kittens!! WHEW!! Now we just have to keep doing what we have been doing, moving Rosey away, and it will stop....eventually!! WHY, OH WHY are there no such thing as kitten pacifier!?

The kittens have new toys that make jingle noises. It is hard to know if they like the noise or the toy more! They chew on any of them they can get into their mouths. They love trying to escape from the playpen. It is funny to see Zelda in the playpen, at only 7 or 8 pounds, she is gigantic compared to the kittens. Zelda can reach the top rail with her back feet still on the ground. It is hard to believe that our teeny tiny will be that big in just a few months!!

Oh, I keep forgetting to tell you how Casey rears up on his back legs to "attack" his brothers. He is the only kitten I have seen do it, and it is pretty funny! This itty bitty ball of white fur with 4 short little legs, trying to look big and ferocious!!

OH!!! Today Casey more than TRIPLED his weight!! YAY CASEY!!!! I missed it yesterday, but Eric DOUBLED his weight!! YAY ERIC!!!!!

The next 3 pictures were taken just because Rosey was sleeping in such a funny position. Oh, and speaking of funny positions, do you see his front paws in the bottom picture?! The kittens are proving that they have learned how to eat, and they enjoy showing off that skill anytime!! I often think that Casey must wonder why he didn't figure out this food thing faster, as he will eat and eat until all the food is gone!

Do you see that placemat and bowl? They are from a nice guy we found on www.craigslist.org. The bowl is perfect for feeding the kittens, and the placemat limits the mess :-)

Today Casey got all the way to the top of the scratching post!! YAY Casey!! The 3 of them now place king of the scratching post, pulling and knocking each other off! It is very funny to watch one on top being pushed at and bitten at and everything else, so another kitten can take over that spot, only to have the whole thing start again! Seeing these guys play like this is great, considering they we so incredibly smallwhen they first moved in!!

Speaking of how small they were, those of you with kids will understand this....Today it really hit me how BIG the kittens are!! You know, how suddenly you see they aren't the fragile little beings you brought home! I said something to someone tonight about how big the kittens are, and he laughed :-)

Sandy is still very involved in the kittens' lives and care!

Day 27

Here I am at home again; all that stress from the last couple of days has Terri experiencing a migraine for the first time in a long while. Eric still hasn't thrown up again. I fed him about 1 tablespoon from a bottle early this morning. We're all trying to stay quiet so Terri can get over her migraine soon.

10:15 update. Eric just had a second bottle, about 1½ tablespoons this time. I'm afraid to give him more at one time yet, after yesterday. He definitely seems like he's ready to eat, but the same thing happened yesterday morning, and the result of letting him eat all he wanted was another upset tummy. I'll give him some more in a little while.

Meanwhile, Rosey and Casey are digging in to the semi-soft food again. Gotta try giving Eric some of that later on today again, I suppose. I forgot to mention before that Casey apparently slept in poop last night, his tummy was just covered, and I had to wash him off this morning. I'm definitely interested in getting the litter training started soon! And...Eric has started trying to wash himself! He is so cute, licking his feet, and usually losing his balance :-)

Evening update: Today all the kittens did very well. It has been determined that Casey is definitely an eater. No matter what, Casey will eat. Rosey and Eric are both inclined to explore during meal time, but Casey just uses the extra plate space to his advantage!

Eric has learned to crawl out of the playpen, so in the next few days we will have to fashion a top. Eric apparently liked the extra attention he got while he wasn't feeling well. I picked him up this afternoon, and he just laid on my lap like a puppy, he was on his back with all 4 legs in the air. While Lee was holding him, I went to soak in the tub. Lee brought Eric in there, and he was laying on my chest. He moved to get up, and jumped right into the tub! I grabbed him so quickly he barely got wet, and it scared ME much more than Eric!

Today Rosey surpassed Eric in weight, and by quite a large amount! We might actually be getting to the point where these guys start gaining an ounce or so each day! Who knows, but it would be nice to get some meat on them! Oh, I almost missed the fact that Rosey has TRIPLED his weight!!

What a day. Terri will be filling in details soon, hopefully. She was so stressed after Eric's throwing up Saturday, she hardly slept, and I stayed home from work Sunday morning to help keep a handle on things. Eric ate like a pig first thing, finishing a 3½ tablespoon bottle, and a little later another 2½ tablespoons. And Casey and Rosey ate really well from their plate of semi-solid food! So, I headed for work half-way through the day, only to hear a little later that Eric was throwing up again! I got home and held onto Eric for a little while, wrapped in a towel, and called a vet for advice. Eric was very lethargic, but hadn't thrown up for awhile by this time, and the doctor suggested just feeding a little at a time once an hour or so to see if his tummy would settle down. That seemed to work, and Eric didn't throw up again by the time we went to bed around 12:30.

Terri says: I really thought we had lost Eric. He was laying in my lap with his eyes glazed over and 1/2 shut, and his tongue was hanging out. I moved him and poked around several times before he moved or made any noise. It was then that I called Lee and told him things were not good.

By about 9:00 or so last night, our boy was bouncing back.

Casey has discovered food, and boy does he enjoy it!! Casey eats better than Rosey, and just about as good as Eric. Casey has also learned how to "fight back" when they play, and he will even instigate it. Not bad since not too long ago he would get sat on and picked on by his bigger brothers!

Rosey, well Rosey is just funny about this eating thing. It is almost as if each meal he needs to be reminded what to do. He wants nothing to do with the food until well after Casey has been eating. I say only Casey there, since Eric's food intake has been limited. Anyway, he then will go and sniff the food, then gingerly take a bite. It gradually works up to him eating, but he needs to learn faster :-) Casey and Eric are going to get to the point of eating a lot more if it is available, and Rosey might miss out!

Day 25 - another late update

OH BOY!! Yesterday started out well and very ordinary, everyone was eating and doing everything Kitten. At 2:00 P.M., we had an appointment for their first vet visit. The kittens got a clean bill of health, with the exception of a slight upper respiratory infection. They are on medication now, and I am sure all will be well.

So, the good things from yesterday were that while we were in the vet's office, the kittens atarted to act like they were starving, Eric was even trying to eat a sheet of paper! I ran out and grabbed a can of kitten food, brought it back into the room, and set some out for Eric. Once Eric was eating, we started working with Rosey and Casey. We placed the food on a tongue depresser, and that seemed to do the trick. For the first few minutes, we allowed them both to just chew on the food covered stick, and eventually they were all 3 eating from paper towels on the exam table!! YAY!!!

So, when we got home, we placed the kittens in their playpen with the litterpan. We figured they were okay, and the pan would be okay there, so we opted to take a little nap. Let me say now, thank God I had read that kittens should have a NATURAL litter, since they are like babies and will eat anything....We got up and noticed that "someone" had thrown up a bit on the corner of the litter pan. Lee cleaned it up, and we went on with trying to get the boys fed. I noticed that Eric was not at all active, and had that UGH look about him.

I was holding Eric while Lee got the other kittens eating. Lee was standing next to Eric and me, when Eric threw up again. It was all over the place. Oh, I forgot to mention that he did try to take a bottle just before he threw up....So began a nightmare that lasted about 3 more hours. Eric slept and slept, waking only to throw up a few more times. We held him close and watched him like hawks. I had him snuggled up on the bed, figuring I would want him close overnight, when Sandy came to see him. About the same time, Eric suddenly perked up and well he has been just fine since then!

I just happened to have been reading about litter training the other day, and it was casually mentioned that kittens should absolutely not have the clumping clay litter because they eat things. Often times, I don't heed these types of "orders", but with these kittens I did. I figured with kittens raised by their mothers learned to not eat teh litter from their mother, as all of the other kittens we have had have never eaten the litter!!

Anyway, we have recycled pine litter for the kittens. It apparently did cause a blockage, causing Eric to feel really sick, but eventually broke down enough for his little body to pass. Had it been clay....

So, by the time we got Erica feeling better, we were well addled. We let teh 3 of them play until they were tired out. Once again we did not get daily kitten weights.

So now, we are at a stalemate with this litter training. They NEED to figure it out, but just haven't gotten yet. They will, I know, but I want it now ;-)

Day 24 - late update

Sorry anyone who is keeping up with this, about missing yesterday. We'll get weights and pictures up today! Eric ate more than ¾ ounce of canned kitten food today, and he also ate close to ½ ounce yesterday. On top of today's ¾ ounce of food, he also had a tablespoon of the mix of goat milk with goat-milk yogurt. Casey and Rosey still haven't quite figured out the food thing -- we can kind of force-feed them, and they won't spit out what we put in their mouths, but they won't try to eat off the yogurt-cup lids we are using for plates for them. Rosey had 3½ tablespoons from his bottle, which drained it dry. Casey had 2½ tablespoons from his bottle, the other tablespoon went to Eric.

They have their first doctor visit today at 2:00, partly to see why it is that Rosey and Casey often have goopy eyes.

We got a free playpen, courtesy of Craig's list, yesterday, and set the gray scratching post in the center of it. Eric sits on top of the scratching post a lot, and Rosey and Casey climb on it as well. Rosey sometimes looks like he's trying to knock Eric off the top! They also have their mouse with the springy tail, which seems to have caught their interest at least some of the time, and they have a lunch-size paper bag to play with too.

Casey and Eric seem to be teaming up to figure out how to beat the blue mouse and springy thingy.

Then there was conference time. I think they were trying to figure out whose day it is to eat fingers and shred thumbs.

Casey is trying to figure out how his brothers can climb up the gray tower. Don't worry Case, you will figure it out soon!!

Day 23

Where to begin? I guess I should start by saying we found out today that all of our little girls are really little BOYS!! WHile this has been expected all along, we were unsure, and in truth hoping at least one of them was a girl. Rosey and Casey are both names of sporting characters, so their names will remain the same. Erica will now be called Eric. It will be hard to actually refer to them as he and him, but I will try hard :-)

As I told you earlier, we have started to introduce food. That is quite an ordeal, and nothing has changed since earlier. Rosey and Casey are just not quite there. Erica was offered 1/2 ounce for dinner, and she ate .40 ounces of it, so that is progress!!

Another first today was toys for the kittens. Sure they have played with things they have found, and each other, but today we started with actual toys The kittens have a small lunch sized paper bag, one of those springy things to bat at, and various yarn toys. Tomorrow we will introduce a ball for them to chase!

We talked to a vet today, and scheduled their first vet visit for Saturday. It should be quite entertaining to say the least!!

First bites of food

Today we decided that the kittens might possibly be ready to try some real food. Off Lee went to buy some kitten food. He came home and we tried it at the next feeding. How did it go??

Erica was not sure what to do, except she would take it from my fingers, then bite me. She literally drew blood with one of her bites! Those little teeth are sharp!! After a few minutes, she had it all figured out, and managed to eat about 1/4 of an ounce. Now, that isn't much until you think about this being the first real food she has tried!

Rosey was even less sure what to do, but she seemed to like the flavor. She ate what was put in her mouth, and then sucked Lee's food flavored finger. We have figured out with other things that Rosey's development is about a day or 2 behind Erica's, so Rosey will likely be eating by Saturday.

Casey, well Casey didn't really have a clue what was happening. She spit out any food that was placed in her mouth, and showed no interest in the small or taste. Again, we have figured out she is 2 or 3 days behind Erica, as far as Development, so Casey will likely be eating real food by Monday!!

Day 22

Even though today is the 22nd day, it was 3 weeks ago today that we first brought Rosey and Casey home. Who knew that now, 3 weeks later, we would have 3 healthy and happy kittens? They are small, especially Casey, but they sure do make up for that with personality!!

Rosey is the lover, she has been since almost day 1. She is quite content to just sit and cuddle in your lap, and have you stroke her back.

Casey is the, er, um, the vocal one, yeah, that is what we will say about her! Boy does she let you have it if she doesn't like what is going on!! She has the loudest voice of the 3 kittens, and she knows it! Tonight she discovered she likes to perch on the back of my neck, snuggled in my hair.

Erica is the climber. Yesterday she demonstrated her ability to climb onto the couch. Today Lee let her out the kittens out, and Erica zipped right to the couch and up onto my lap! She also has figured out where her food comes from!

All 3 kittens have purring down pat. It is a low steady rumble now, where at first they sound like little sputtering lawn mowers.

I told you these guys were fast, but today I actually LOST Erica!! I had the kittens all out running free after their feeding. I was watching them run and play all over the place. Suddenly I realized I was watching only 2 kittens!! I scooped up Casey and Rosey, and was running all around calling for Erica. Suddenly it dawned on me that i could put Casey and Rosey in their box. As soon as I locked up Rosey and Casey, I turned around. Guess who was sitting there watching me like nothing had happened! Erica looked so incredibly cute, she heard all the fuss and left her exploring adventure to see what she was missing!! That was 1.

2 happened tonight when Lee and I were both with the kittens while they ran free and played. Suddenly Miss Erica was missing again. This time she was under the bed! I may have to leash train her!!

Casey is really coming along now, she has gotten big enough and strong enough to wrestle with Erica nad Casey. The only thing is, she now knows she can wrestle with them! She is really pushy about it too!! She bats at them and bites them until they are forced to respond. It is funny only because she has endured countless times when Rosey and Erica would gang up on her when she was still really tiny! Hey, you know what they say about pay back!!

Today we learned the kittens know, and can express anger!! I was holding all 3, and Erica was playing at her bottle. Rosey was trying to play with Erica, and Erica was not impressed. When Rosey insisted and got her face too close to the nipple, Erica let out one of those angry cat howls, you know the one, the louder longer RHAH, and swatted at Rosey! It was entertaining to say the least!

The kittens have put away the milk today! So much so that I mixed 1/2 goats milk with 1/2 goats milk yogurt, hoping that maybe it would help them feel full longer. HA!! Today is just an eating day, and their weights, as you will see below, more than demonstrate that!!

Frankie Kitty has started coming around the kittens today, though not so much, and not at all too close. Zelda has been sparse today as far as the kittens are concerned.

Oh, all 3 kittens are now "well" established on their feet. They now carry their bellies well of the floor when they wobble around!

Eric broke the 1 pound mark today!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Who knew that such little kittens could burp so big!! Those of you reading this who have children have all had your baby come out with a man-sized burp, and just laughed in amazement. Well, the kittens have lion sized burps, and the only thing to say about them is, "Oh my!!"

I thought Erica would climb the laundry bag first, but it was Rosey. Being the over-protective mommy, I kept telling Lee to make sure Rosey didn't fall off. Rosey made it back down the laudry bag all on her own, she didn't win any awards for grace in doing so, but she did it safely!

Today the kittens ate A LOT!! Erica even needed a refill on her bottle during one feeding!! That was a first! Casey managed to eat 3 tablespoons of milk this evening, in one feeding, also a first for her. I was surprised to see that all 3 kittens ate so well this evening, being as they had already had 1 big feeding for the day!!

All 3 kittens had a bath of sorts this evening! I opened their cage, and found them all really grossly dirty with their own waste. We had put them in there without their towel or anything, as it was all in the wash! They all 3 purred and relaxed completely during the "bath", which was really just being rinsed off well with warm water in the bathroom sink. I laughed at their first kitten "shower"!

Well, Zelda is really starting to be curious of the kittens. She is right there when they are out. The flip side of that is that she still hasn't decided if the kittens are a good thing. She did the big cat slap thing to Erica again this evening, Erica noticed this time, but she was not hurt.

The kittens have started to really play, and they show some signs that they know they are cats! I think it was Erica who was licking her paws today. Then they all LOVE to attack the long flowing hair on Sandy's tail, and Erica seems to enjoy the reaction when she attacks Sandy's paws. We bought the kittens some fish shaped "teethers" last week, alas they really don't want to teethe on them. Nope, the kittens prefer to teethe on human fingers!! We are gonna have to start wearing ski gloves to handle them!! Heeheehee!!

Eating and pooping and sleeping, that is the life of the kitten princesses!! Oh yeah, and Casey still screams like a crazy cat when she is not getting her way!!

Poor kitties!!! Lee has taken to putting them in sock like tube of fabric for weighing. Erica and Rosey just work on escaping. Casey, well Casey screams and hollers while trying to escape!!

BIG NEWS FLASH!!! Casey has now doubled her starting weight!! YAY!!!!!!!

Not much change today, it was a pretty routine day. Kittens are getting bigger, pictures are getting blurrier with all the movement. and that is IF we even get the picture!! Kittens move FAST as far as the camera is concerned!

Oh, Zelda is still trying to figure out what thee 4 legged noise makers really are. Today she gave Erica a head full of big cat paw, when she thought Erica was going to get the treat we had given Zelda! Never mind that the treat was as big as Erica!! In Zelda's defense, the blow was very pulled and not that hard with no claws out, just Zelda letting Erica know who the big cat is! I am not sure Erica even knew anything happened, or at least what it was, she made no noise and didn't even move! I was freaked out by it, but Erica just sat there!

Has it really been 2 weeks?! What did we do before kittens? A large portion of our day consists of kitten feedings. They are not eating as frequently now as they were in the beginning, but timing is everything! Can we do X? I don't know, when did the kittens last eat?! I didn't have to think this hard with any of the kids when they were babies!!

With Casey's weight being so much lower than that of both Erica and Rosey, we decided to add goat milk yogurt to their meals. It isn't much, only 1 or 2 teaspoons per 3 ounces, but I hope we will see Casey's weight start to creep closer to that of her littermates!

I told you the kittens are getting fast, but Erica is almost ready to run a race! That little bitty kitten is FAST!! She doesn't have the leaping ability, YET, so it isn't so hard to keep track of the kittens, but it won't be long before they are crazy busy around here!! I am looking around for something to allow the kittens to be out and about more during the day. A playpen or something, where they can still see and explore some, yet be confined and kept safe without me watching every minute!!

Since the kittens were ready for bed, we opted to let them sleep instead of fussing about more pictures! Not much happening on the kitten front that is new. They are eating like small piggies, with Rosey eating like each meal will be her last! The kittens are all perfecting their run, which makes it very entertaining to have them out on the floor!

Oh, Zelda is definitely working on deciding if the kittens are cool enough for her. She is over being frightened, so we are making progress there.

Oh, major milestone today! Rosey has more than doubled her weight since we got her! Erica and Casey are still working on that.

No, day 13 was not an unlucky day for our kittens, but it was an adventure filled. We started out with a trip for the dogs to the dog park. Lee took the dogs to play, while I fed the kittens in the car. I want to expose the kittens to a lot of different noises and situations.

When we got home, we allowed the kittens to explore a bit on the floor. We have not allowed them down off the bed very much, and never all 3 of them at once. They seemed to like the new place to explore, and they tired themselves out completely! We put them in their kennel, and they went to sleep almost immediately, and with no fuss what-so-ever!

I think the kittens are growing up. I say this because while Sandy is still fully devoted to them, she has started to pull back some while they are out. There was a time that the kittens couldn't breathe without Sandy right there. Now she just takes care of them and then moves away to just watch.

I am beginning to wonder if the kittens have favorite tastes. We have switched to only goats milk, which they seem to really enjoy. Today we have been using fresh goats milk, and their eating has slacked off somewhat. I will know tomorrow if it is the fresh versus store bought milk. The kittens often have days of heavy eating followed by days of more snack like meals. They did all gain today, so no need to really worry!

As of today, Casey has gained exactly 100 grams.

Today has been another sleepy day, but when the kittens were awake, the ate well and played hard! They are getting really fast, or at least compared to last week! Poor Diego, he wants to be right there, watching over everything, and protect the kittens from any danger. However, as much he loves his kittens, he does NOT want them to actually touch him! They go zooming toward Diego, and he freaks out and backs away!

Sandy is still being an excellent doggie mom to the kittens, doing everything for them but providing the food! She helps keep the kittens clean, and she provides a warm, safe, furry place to snuggle! She happily puts up with the kittens using her as a jungle gym!

Zelda, one of our older cats, is getting braver everyday! She is not at all sure what the kittens are, and has yet to get closer than a few feet. Tonight Zelda actually met Erica, well okay, she came within about 2 feet, but still it is closer than before!! Zelda appeared intrigued with the kitten, but not so much as to investigate further!

Today, the kittens are proving they know how to use those teeth!! No, they are not eating with them, but they are learning how to chew on things. We bought them some little fish shaped teethers, hoping they would chew on them. Do they?! Nope, they prefer my nose and my lip, or a finger! Did I mention those teeth are very sharp?

Today Rosey broke the 300 grams mark, and is VERY close to having doubled her starting weight! That is extremely exciting! Casey and Erica are also gaining well.

Okay, so maybe not actual teeth in there yet, but they are coming! If you put your finger in their mouths, you can definitely feel the teeth! I think in a few days we will be able to take pictures of kittens with teeth!! How exciting!

Today the kittens had their first human baby encounter. The baby was SO cute with them! She was only 8 months, and she didn't understand what they were. I think the funniest thing was when she tried to eat one of the kittens! She didn't harm the kitten, but babies put everything in their mouths, even furry little kittens :-)

The baby's mommy was a very nice lady who provided the kittens with enough goat milk to see them through a week or two!! You know who you are, and if you are reading this, THANKS!!

Some days are sleeping days, and now I know some days are eating days!! These guys have eaten EXTREMELY well today. At one of their meals, they all 3 managed to get in TWO tablespoons of milk! Remember just a few days ago when we were excited about them getting in just 1 tablespoon?! BIG DEAL today!!

The kittens continue to get more and more active, which is very exciting to watch! They really enjoy climbing, and Sandy is one of their favorite jungle gyms! She is very tolerant of the kittens climbing on her. Diego is still pretty much afraid of the kittens, shying away at the least bit of physical contact. It is funny that Diego is like this, as he is super protective of the kittens! He is the first one there if any of them make the slightest little bit of noise!

Oh no!! I almost forgot the MOST impostant thing of the day!! Today, Casey went over the 200 grams mark! She weighed in at 202 grams! That is up 56 grams!!

From day 1 with the kittens, Sandy has taken an interest, and been very involved with their care. Today I got this great picture of her with Rosey and Casey, while Erica was being fed. Look at Sandy's great big smile! She is so happy when the kittens are out and she can be a mommy to them!

Now, Sandy "nursed" our older cat, Zelda, for almost 18 months. It will be entertaining to see how long Sandy mothers these 3 kittens!

Day 8

Today the kittens had their first play date. They met bigger/older cats that were not upset or scared to see them! They met and loved on an 8 week old kitten, that I came THEES close to bringing home with me!! Yes, sleep deprivation DOES cause moments of temporary insanity!! Oh, but he was SO cute, and the kittens with him, well they are just cute anyway, so you can only imagine!!

All 3 kittens are increasing the amounts of food they are eating. Erica took almost 2 tablespoons this evening before bed, while both Rosey and Casey ate almost 1.5 tablespoons!! WOOOHOOO they are eating!!

We discovered today how pretty Casey is when Sandy hasn't gotten hold of her!! Sandy is so into this cleaning the kittens thing, that she makes Casey slightly resemble a drowned rat, well at least her rear looks like that!! Hey, Casey actually has hair on her tail!! Look closely at the picture of the 3 of them from yesterday!!

Nothing much to write about today, as it was a sleepy day for the kitties!! All 3 are eating well, and gaining weight.

I have decided to share some fun facts about the kitties, since today is kind of boring! Let's see, the kittens wiggle their ears while they eat. This is super cute with all of them, but with Casey, her little grey ears wiggling is just too cute!!

Rosey has already decided she enjoys attention and petting. She is a master climber, and uses this ability to get the attention she demands!!

Erica has already decided she likes it with her sisters!!Brothers? She huddles close and takes comfort in all being together! She surprised me this evening, when she was the first kitten out of their cage!! The few times prior to today, Erica has been huddled in the back, and not really wanted to move after Rosey and Casey left her!!

Well, this afternoon, I found out that Lisa found another kitten, abandoned by the momma cat. Knowing how much Rosey and Casey thrive because of each other, I went to retrieve Erica. Yes, Erica. While I am fairly certain that all 3 kittens are actually boys, until I know for sure, Erica is Erica. If she is a he, she will be renamed Eric....

Erica has fallen right in with Rosey and Casey, including their love of sleep!! Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled they enjoy sleeping, but it is a bit scary to open the cage after the kittens have taken a 5 or 6 hour nap! I keep reading it is okay for them to sleep so long, just as long as they are eating well, so I am ot going to disrupt their sleep.

WOW!! Erica is HUGE, weighing in at 260 grams, a full 40 grams more than Rosey!! Oh, and for Chris, that means Erica weighs 9.15 ounces :-)

In the pictures above, the black kitty on the notebook is Rosey, and the black kitty by the crate is Erica. Don't worry about Sandy's paw, she merely broke a nail playing at the dog park today. She will be okay.

Wow!! I have started a lot of these posts with that word, but today is truly a wow kind of day!! Today, Casey's left eye is finally starting to open up!! I was getting worried about it, since her right one opened 5 days ago. I had given the left eye until tomorrow to show signs of opening, then I was going to call the vet! Pretty soon I will be posting a picture of Casey with her beautiful eyes wide open!!

ALSO today, Rosey weighed in at 200 grams!! They are doing well, or at least in my opinion, in the weight department. Casey is up to 171 grams. There is a definite difference in the size of the 2 kittens, who knew 30 grams could so different!?!

If you look at the picture above, it is our kitty version of "Yin and Yang". It would have been easier to get this picture when the kittens first arrived, but I didn't really think about it until tonight. Wikipedia says this about Yin and Yang: "Yin and yang are interdependent. One cannot exist without the other. For example, day cannot exist without night. Light cannot exist without darkness." I think these kittens' well being is totally dependent upon each other, so it couldn't be more appropriate!!

WOW!! I knew these kittens with teeny tiny, but I never REALLY knew it until I picked up Zelda Kitty!! Zelda is 2, and weighs in at only 7 pounds herself, but she is HUGE in comparison!!

No big changes or milestones today, Rosey and Casey are both eating relatively well, and they are both active. Hmm, we have discovered Rosey has a Houdini-like ability to escape, and Casey has temper tantrums!

Rosey is having some trouble getting comfortable when she eats, so I decided to swaddle her. It works well until she gets a paw loose! She waves it wildly about, trying to figure out what to do with it. She doesn't like it resting on my leg or my tummy or my chest, and she doesn't really want to hold the bottle or my finger, so it waves around. Those little kitty claws are sharp when they wave wildly across your hand!! Heeheehee!!

Casey and her temper tantrums are a force to be reckoned with! She rears back her little head, opens her mouth wide, and SQUAWKS . It is very cute and sweet when she first starts, then she gets all warmed up....She gets loud and angry about it, reminds me of a baby bird the way she opens her mouth so wide!! As soon as you finish whatever she is squawking about, her tantrum stops! Lee says it is as if she has an on/off switch!!

Day 3

Well, even with kittens things are unsure from day to day! Today was Casey's day to eat and eat and eat, while Rosey just snacked. Okay, so eat and eat is a relative term, but given that we got 1 whole tablespoon of food in Casey in one feeding, it is a big deal!

We also noticed that Casey may need a trip to the vet prior to her 6 week check-up! Poor kitty, her bottom seems to be puckered out a bit, and really bright pink. I talked to the vet, and since Casey is still going potty okay, there is no need to worry right now. We just have to watch her and make sure things are still moving along well. Hopefully she will be okay, as she is still to tiny for anything to really be done for her!

Now, if you look closely at Rosey's picture from today, you will see open eyes!! Yep, her eyes are open! Casey is still sporting the Popeye look, with only her right eye open. The 2 kittens are getting more and more active all the time. If left unattended for even a moment, they fly across the bed and have almost fallen off!! Not exactly a shining moment, but they are getting more and more mobile!! That means they are getting stronger and stronger.

Well, this morning when we woke up, I was a bit concerned. Rosey and Casey are both sleepers, and they slept through the night. When they woke up though, they were both down quite a bit in their weights. Already having some concern with their eating abilities, I called the vet. I was assured we were doing all we could for the kittens, and to just watch them and keep trying.

Well, I guess what they say about patience paying off is correct, by this evening both kittens were nuring from the bottle fairly well, with no supplement from the syringes to ensure they got food!

Our milestone triumph tonight was that both kittens were able to take 1 tablespoon of their formula in one sitting! Now, it is still low, they should be drinking 2 tablespoons every 4 hours, or at least according to everything we have read and been told!

Oh, and I forgot to tell you that Casey(white one) has her right eye open! Rosey's eyes and Casey's left eye are all trying to open! Within the next few days, there daily pictures should show their eyes!!

Today we met Lisa. Lisa discovered she had abandoned kittens in the attic, and needed help to get them out. Knowing that Lee loves cats, I volunteered him to the rescue! Well, I do always tease him about his long "monkey arms", and add to that the fact that he is skinny, and well he is perfect for the job!

Lee was laying on a rafter, and had to cut out piece of a board to get to the kitties. Lisa then got a broom handle, and we attached a large fish tank net to the end of it with tape. Lee was then able to reach the kittens, and after about 20 minutes or so, we had 2 precious kittens safe and sound. We all assumed they were newborn since they were just discovered, but now we think they are very close to 2 weeks old. We have no idea if the kitties are boys or girls, but Lisa's little girls named them Rosey and Casey! Great names if you ask me!!

Rosey is a black kitten, with 4 white paws and various patches of white. Rosey is very mobile, and seems to want to explore! Oh, she loves playing on my shoulder, where she can play in my hair!

Casey is mostly white, with a touch of grey on her tail and ears. Casey is very vocal, and when she gets Rosey going too, well they can be heard from quite a ways off!!

They are both reluctant to eat. We stopped and got kitten formula, and the vet gave us syringes. After a feeding with syringes, I opted to go buy kitty bottles!! They still don't seem too interested, so we will see how it goes tonight. If they are still not much into eating tomorrow, we will pack it to the vet!

Oh, excitement!! Casey just pooped!! Yes, that IS a big deal, as kittens need stinmulation to do that, and I was worried I was not doing it right!!

Casey - 146 grams or 5.15 ounces
